I think my best artwork of the semester is gonna be my big letter. Why?, because it has such a truthful meaning to me and to my life. The letter is a "B", because I liked being called Becca my whole life I never really liked being called Rebecca. Becca was just always shorter for Rebecca and I always liked it that way. This artwork is not finished yet but when it is done it will look really good. I still have to paint it and put pictures on it. I'm putting pictures on it because those are the major parts of my life the people or animals in those pictures make me who I am and they have formed me into who I am today. I love every single person and animal in those pictures they mean the world to me and I don't know where I would be without them. I would like to redo my last artwork which is the mother and daughter figure. Because I thought I could of did a lot better job carving it and shaping it and I would of did an easier figure to do out of plaster. Plaster is hard but it is easier to break it you hit the right spot. Also something I have learned in art class that I can apply to other classes are determination, hard work and to not give up no matter what. I can apply it to all my other classes because if I put my mind to it I can accomplish it and if I try and not give up I can do it. I just have to put determination into it and not give up and I might not do my best but I did my best and if I really need to I can do it over and do a better job next time. One thing I wish I could have done more in art class is clay. Because clay is fun to do and you can do so many things with clay and you can make so many different pieces with clay. I just enjoy doing clay in art class it is so fun to do and when you are finished you are so happy with what you have made you just want to make more and more. Clay is just so fun to play around with and build with since it is so flexible. It may get frustrating sometimes because it does break and it may not shape the way you want but if you try it works out.

Standards EvidenceThe standards I met in this artwork are A,B,C,D. The first standard is A and B, name at least one contemporary Minnesota American Indian Artist and Identify key ideas from contemporary Minnesota American Indian Artists.. I met that standard by looking at artworks and the American indian Artist that inspired me was Al Wadzinski or Frank Big Bear because they worked in college but Al Wadzinski works in sculptures and mixed media. My artwork is college and mixed media and it is also 3D. The second standard I met was C, Be able to explain personal beliefs, values and behavior. I met this standard by my artwork and through my artist statements. My last standard I met in this artwork is D, Explain how art reflects life and life reflects art. Well life is art and art is life. Life is art in so many different ways there are beautiful parts in life and terrible parts in life and you can turn them into art. And art is life because sometimes that art work was a part of life and it happened in real life and plus it can be a part of someone else's life. Artist StatementMy final artwork is a big 3D "B". I chose the letter "B" because I was always called Becca my whole life never Rebecca because I never really liked being called Rebecca. The only time I hear Rebecca is when I'm in trouble. Otherwise she always calls me Becca my whole family calls me Becca it's just what I prefered my whole life. The subject matter of this artwork is just importance in my life. I will be painting the "B" and putting pictures all over the letter because the pictures represent important people, quotes and animals that are in my life. Those people and things have made me who I am today. The Title of my artwork is "Letter B". The materials I used for this artwork are matte board, cups, acrylic gesso, acrylic paint called "sea blue", pictures and paper tape. Who inspired me for my artwork any 3D artists, or american indian artist who worked in 3D or collage because my artwork is a 3D collage letter. No my artwork doesn't not express a personal or social issue. It has a happy emotion to it because it's about the important and happy things in my life. My goals for this artwork were to make big 3D letter that is painted a pretty color and to have a collage of pictures on it. And to do a good job on my final artwork of the semester. My goals as an artist was to make something I haven't made before and I did a pretty good job making it in my opinion. My overall thoughts of this artwork are I did a good job gluing and placing the cups and making sure the letter is not lopsided. It is what I imagined because it turned out better than I thought it would. I might make another one I just need to find the materials and keep making them because they are fun to make and they are interesting to make also you learn a lot of things.
My artwork looks like a mother and a child embarrassing there love for each other. The figure is white and it is a circular shape that has two heads at the top and has parts carved out because it shows for 3D effects that way. The subject matter is a mother and a child's bond. The title of this artwork is "An unbreakable bond". I created this artwork by putting plaster into a small box and then carving out my artwork. I used carving tools to carve away plaster. The big idea behind this artwork is the unbreakable bond between a mother and her child and I can't wait to experience that with my son Lucas that is on the way. My goals for this artwork were to make something out of plaster because I never made an artwork out of plaster before and it was something new, to try something new in this artwork and to challenge and to push myself. My overall thoughts on this artwork are it was a pain in the butt to do but I overcame the obstacles and did a pretty good job for my first time making an artwork out of plaster. I could of did better at shaping and carving but overall it was my first time and i'm proud of what i accomplished. Standards Evidence
I think my mom would most appreciate this artwork because of the meaning and what it's about. I guess other mothers would probably enjoy looking at it and appreciate it also. I have no idea where it would best be on display. I made a mug out of clay the technique I used was spab and coil. The glazes I used were carnival (color burst) and samon mousse. I used samon mousse for the handle, the inside and the bottom of the mug. I used carnival (color burst) for the outside of the mug. Also I put inspiring words into it because these words are meaningful and pick me up. For my figure I wanted to make a figure that represents the bond between a mother and a child. I wanted to make a figure with a mother and a child because I'm going to experience that bond really soon.
I really For this Non-Representational artwork I made a painting about my grandma without saying it was about my grandma. I drew and painting stuff she liked like playing cards, sunflower, a cross, a sign that says " I love you to the moon and back", and angel wings. The targets that I reached and met for this unit are E and A. The first target I met was E which was Persists when problems arise. I met this target by solving and thinking through how I could fix a problem in my artwork. The final and last target I met was A and the target was Seeks out input from others at multiple stages throughout artwork. I met this target by asking my classmate Danielle what else I could put on this artwork then playing cards shot into my mind. I really like how this artwork turned out. It gives me this feeling like i'm getting closer to her and I feel like she was next to me when I was making this artwork. I could of made the gray lines on the sign a little smaller than it maybe would of looked nicer. I could of put more details into the sunflower like on the petals and in the stem could of put a lighter green for the leaves and highlights in the leaves and on the stem. But other then all of that I really liked the angel wings that part was my favorite to paint.
My idea for this artwork is about my gramz who was one of my best friends she passed away two years ago on Halloween. I was taking to my classmate Danielle on what I should add cause there was a big blank spot on the page. Danielle said "what was something she liked to do" and I said "Playing cards!", so I put playing cards in the blank spot. All the targets I reached in this Non-Representational unit are B,C,D and F. I reflected feedback from Danielle and I also made revisions to my artwork based on feedback by putting playing cards in the empty spot in my artwork. I choose my subject for my artwork about putting stuff she liked to do, say and just thinks she liked into an artwork about her because I miss her so much. And the last target I met was F. I independently problem- solved by fixing and redrawing some on my items on my artwork.
Target EvidenceI reached the last two targets in this architecture unit. The first target I met was B, I met this target by writing down and sketching my ideas for the memory box and for the outsides of the memory box. The last target I met for this unit is target F. I met this target by working with a new material I haven't used before. I'm using popsicle sticks and I tried making a house but I didn't like it and it didn't work out. Artist StatementMy artwork is a popsicle stick memory box with some of my favorite memories on the outside of the popsicle sticks. I created my artwork by hot gluing 12 popsicle sticks side by side. I made 6 of them to form a box when the painting is all over. My big idea behind this artwork is memories are important in your life because they mark important and special times in your life. My overall thoughts about my artwork is I think it will look really good at the end when it is finished with all the nice paintings of my favorite memories on it.
I have met three targets in the Explore & Develop. The first target I have met this unit is target A. We went through a slideshow of artists, their techniques and artworks and we discussed what we liked and didn't like about each artwork and artist and their techniques. The second target that I have met is target D. I've been exploring popsicle sticks and what cool techniques and things they can do. I have never used popsicle sticks for an artwork before. They are really fun but hard to work with. The last target that I have met this unit of Architecture is target E. I reachered before I started working on my artwork. I looked up popsicle stick artwork and I came up with a popsicle stick memory box. I will paint good memories from my life on the outsides on the popsicle stick memory box.
The materials that I used throughout this media fair are papier-mache, soap, floral foam, and cardboard. What surprised me about the soap was it was easy to carve but it's hard to get those straight and precise lines. What also surprised me about the floral foam was it was messier than I expected and it broke really easily. Cardboard and papier-mache was fun but boring to do nothing really surprised me about them. The materials that I will possibly be using again are soap, papier-mache because i can carve anything out of soap and for papier-mache I can put it on anything and make a duplicate of that item like a mask or a bowl. I would use the soap again because it was fun to carve and I could carve anything into the soap. The materials I wouldn't use again are floral foam and cardboard. I wouldn't use floral foam because it is really messy and I wouldn't use cardboard because it is just really boring to do.
I don't consider myself an artist but I like to do art and different kinds of art and I like trying different techniques and different forms of art. I hope different ways to do art but in 3D form. I will push myself out of my comfort zone to try something new and I will risk me failing to get better and to build my artistic skills. My goals for this semester is to push myself out of my comfort zone and do something that I haven't done before. Also to build my artistic ability and to learn and get better at art from my failures.
