My artwork is a female native american in a headdress and surrounding her is a dream catcher, wolf in a red moon, a teepee and the word "powwow". The background is tan faded into black. I created this artwork by paint, tracing and black paint marker. The big idea for my artwork is to show the stereotype for Native Americans. My goal for this artwork was to show my identity and I did that by making my artwork about a native american. My overall thought is it looks really cool and good and it is one of the best paintings I have done btu I wish I had more time so the finished product looked better and neeter.

My artwork is going good and the two studio habits I have been using are Engage & Persist and Envision. I use Engage & Persist by engaging in working in my artwork and persisting to work on my artwork. I use Envision by envisioning the next step in my artwork. I am sharing my background as a native american. My plan has stayed the same. I am very proud of myself for making an artwork this meaning full. I am working on painting the rest of my artwork.
The two studio habits I have in mind of using through my artwork process are Express and Stretch & Explore. I will be using Express by expressing my identity and my heritage in my artwork. I will also be using Stretch & Explore by tracing onto a canvas by a overhead projector and by using graphite transfer. I haven't used either of these techniques on any artwork of mine before.
On a white/yellowish piece of paper there is ghost face also known as scream in the middle of the piece of paper but the shoulders touching the bottom of the paper. On top of his head is a red box of text that reads "I Love You". The ghost face is black and white and the background is black and white smudges and lines. I created an Text and Image Postmodern Principles artwork with charcoal, paper and a soft cut print. I traced a ghost face on the paper then I colored ghost face with charcoal. Then I traced a box for the soft cut print and printed the word "I Love You" onto the top of his head. The big idea of my artwork was to try something new and go beyond my capabilities and use materials I haven't used before. My goals were to try a new form of artwork and did just that. My overall thoughts for my artwork are good because I feel like I did a good job.
The postmodern principle I am using is Text & Image. I'm using Text & Image by drawing Scream or aka ghost face on the paper with charcoal and then layering "I Love You" on the top of Screams face with a soft print in red ink with white letters. The two studio habits I have been using is Envision and Engage & Persist. I use Envision by envisioning the next step of my artwork and envisioning how the finished artwork will look. I use Enage & Persist by engaging into my artwork and persisting even if I come to problems in my artwork.
I decided I would focus on text and image because it is a postmodern principle I haven't done yet and also I had an idea right away of my artwork. I was also the easiest one to do. Text and Image I can have fun with because I can put two opposite things together and it would work.
I have created a colorful collage with a variety of colors and designs and I have layered animals on top of the colorful collage. The only struggle I had with my collage was trying to cut out the animals with an exacto knife but the scissors worked better. My whole collage was a success I believe so but that is just my opinion. I also learned that different type of collages have a different meaning and they are unique in their own way. I am capable to do anything if I put my mind to it. I went beyond my capabilities by trying my best to make the collage simple but different. And I embrace my mistakes because no matter what a mistake can be beautiful. I notice that every single one of her artworks has a different and unique look to them. And they have a different sense of comfort to them. I also notice that most or even all of her artworks have to do with women. DIfferent and unique backgrounds that go with that the women looks like or what she is doing. These artworks remind me of old movies with women always looking beautiful and they are the housewives or dancers at a club. They make me have a sense of confidence, comfort and empowerment. I am wondering why she uses women for her artwork? I speculate she was trying to say a message about women and how we are empowering and beautiful. I think these artworks are successful because they are unique and I have seen nothing like them.
My artwork is made up of eight mini land and seascapes. The first seascape is a beach with palm trees in the bottom left hand corner and the sunset is a nice blue. The second one down is a rainbow sunset with a dead tree on a hill in the center. With white twinkled stars around the sky. The third one down is a beautiful seascape with a dock in the left hand corner. The sunset is a gorgeous red, pink and blue with a white sun in the center on the sunset line. The last one on the left hand side is a mountain landscape with water running down in between the mountains. The sky is a pretty orange and red. In the front of the mountains is some frosty ground. The first seascape on the right hand side is a beautiful sunset seascape. The sunset consists of orange, light blue, purple, light pink, dark pink and dark blue. The second landscape is another mountain landscape. White mountains in the background and a orange sun that peaks through the mountains. Beautiful light blue sky with three birds in the upper right hand corner. below the mountains is grassland and a river flowing through the grassland with two trees on the bottom right hand corner. The third seascape down is a sunset seascape with a black rock in the middle of the seascape on the side. This is all reflected in the water in the seascape. The sunset consists of white, light blue, dark pink, purple, dark blue, orange and yellow. The last landscape is a savannah landscape with a sunset behind acacia trees. The sunset is an orange and yellow sunset. There are four Acacia trees on the black ground. I made my artwork with chalk pastels and a blending stub. I also outlined each land and seascape with a black paint marker. The big idea behind my artwork is there are many beautiful places in the world, when you get the chance go explore and see them, you only live once. My goals for this artwork was to try a new material I haven't used yet and I met that goal. My overall thoughts for my artwork are? I thought I really did a good job especially with a material I haven't used before. There are many different but beautiful colors and all the land and seascapes are beautiful.
The studio habits I have used in the process of my artwork are Engage & Persist and Envision. I have used Engage & Persist by engaging into my artwork and persisting to get it done. I run into some problems but I push through and persist with my work. The last studio habit I use is Envision. I use Envision by mentally picturing the next step in my artwork and seeing what looks good and what doesn't.
For painting boot camp I tried chalk pastels and I really like them. They are a little hard to work with since they are easy to smudge but when you get a hang of them they are fun to work with. the finished result of them is nice and you can do a lot with chalk pastels use a blending stick and you could also use your fingers. you can also use water on chalk pastels. The two studio habits I have been using are Stretch & Explore and Develop Craft. I use Stretch & Explore by trying chalk pastels because I have never used them before. I'm stretching and exploring my art capabilities and trying a new material. I use Develop Craft by practicing with chalk pastels because i'm gonna be using them for my artwork.
